Sometimes it’s hard to really feel the Christmas atmosphere in Florida. Sure you see houses decorated, lights twinkling from palm trees and ridiculous lawn ornaments of Santa, but it just isn’t the same without the snow and freezing temperatures. Then again, I despise the snow and temperatures that make my nose run all over my face. Pleasant visual I know.

One of my favorite Christmas songs is Jimmy Buffett’s “Mele Kalikimaka”, and I’m sure thousands of other tropically inclined people would agree with me. It’s just a happy Hawaiian tune that’s hard to sing but puts in you in the Christmas spirit no matter what your latitude.

Lyrics to Mele Kalikimaka

Mele kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas day
That’s the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way
To say Merry Christmas to you
Take it girls

Mele kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas day
That’s the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way
To say Merry Christmas to you

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way
To say Merry Christmas to you

Mele kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas day
That’s the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way
To say Merry Christmas
Merry Merry Christmas
Merry Merry Merry Christmas to you
