Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas National Park is a national treasure. About 70 miles west of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico you will find a massive but unfinished coastal fortress. It is the largest masonry structure in the Western Hemisphere, and is composed of over 16 million bricks. It was constructed to be a naval station that would help suppress piracy in the Caribbean.

Today the fort needs help. Years of hurricanes and the unrelenting seawater have taken its toll on the historic structure. Help came in the form of stimulus dollars. Those dollars are not only helping restore the fort but has given jobs to many people.
