Just you and your husband/wife all alone on the ocean. You sit at the helm of your motor yacht and plot your course. You talk over which Caribbean island you’d like to anchor off of, and while you do the Mahi-Mahi are biting your drag lines. This is the romantic life of living on the sea and this is what you’ll get if you follow the Equinox.
One of my favorite blogs is called Following the Equator: Voyages of Equinox. Written by a Karyn and Ron Rothstein of Florida, the couple spend the winters island hopping the Caribbean and writing about their day to day adventures. Plus they love to listen to Buffett while they cruise the blue blue sea. What’s not to like right?
Reading their blog is almost a guilt pleasure. I literally get excited when I see new stories pop up in my feed reader. I’ll sit there and read each story, putting myself on board the Equinox with them. Now I have never met Karyn or Ron, so I hope they don’t mind if I imagine myself at the helm in the middle of the night, staring out at the black void, or casting a line off the aft deck.
Ron
They talk about the everyday life of living aboard a boat. Everything from the constant upkeep that is required, to the special friendships made with others in the yachting community. They make you feel as if you’re right there, doing things like diving down to the anchor to make sure it’s secure to the sandy bottom on the lee side of a nameless island in the Bahamas, or docking the dinghy in the BVI and clearing through customs before exploring the islands at leisure. See what I mean by a guilty pleasure?

Here is what they have to say on their “About Us” page:
Hi! We’re the Rothsteins. We came from wide-ranging and random points on the compass: Ron grew up in Hong Kong, and Karyn in Wisconsin. We met in Maryland at a small airport on the Eastern Shore — skydiving. Kindred spirits on land and sea as well, we continue to live life to the fullest! We spent the last 20 years in the Baltimore area working and cruising the Chesapeake, where Ally joined the crew in 1992. Both Ron and Karyn hold USCG 50-ton licenses and are avid scuba-divers, with over 40 years of experience between them. Allison, now 19 and off to college, was certified at age 10 and enjoys diving whenever she’s aboard. We’re grateful and happy that our family has been able to to live our dream, which is to cruise, explore and experience as much as we can aboard our 58’ Kadey-Krogen, Equinox. We appreciate that we aren’t alone in the desire to explore beyond the known horizons, and enjoy sharing the songlines of others who also relish being out in the world. Fins up!
The couple has just set out on the Equinox for season and as of this writing, they are somewhere in the southern Bahamas and cruising to the DR. I encourage you to kick-back, relax and follow the adventures of the Equinox.

What are the lyrics to Buffett’s part in Knee Deep with Zac Brown Band…
Wrote a note said be back in a minute
Bought a boat and I sailed off in it
Don’t think anybody gonna miss me anyway
Mind on a permanent vacation
The ocean is my only medication
Wishing my condition ain’t ever gonna go away
I think those words fit pretty damn well for those of us who wish to escape to the sea.
Cheers,
