I’m sitting in front of my monitor, hammering away at the keyboard with No Shoes Radio streaming its ear candy through the speakers. When all the sudden a song catches by attention and causes an, “Wow, what is this.” moment. I click over to the NSR window to see a group by the name of Hi Tide singing an amazing cover of Bob Marley’s Stir It Up.

I had to find out more.

With a little Google magic I find that the group is out of the Cayman Islands. Island to the core, just what I like. The more I browse their music the more I’m drawn in. Songs like Begin Again, Living On The Island and Next To You will no doubt take your mind right to the St. Somewhere you dream about.

They have quite a few albums but my favorite is Live at Deckers. It has the covers of Stir It Up and Buffett’s Come Monday. You can snag that album from iTunes here – Live at Deckers - Hi Tide

Hi Tide – Get Warm

The mission of Hi Tide is to obtain excellence in all live performances and recordings we create, and to develop a musical style and sound that is truly unique to the Cayman Islands and share it with the rest of the world.

Hi Tide: Bio

Hi Tide

(From website) Hi Tide, an acoustic duo from the Cayman Islands, is well known for their live performances as well as their recordings of classic covers and catchy contemporary original pop songs. As described by the editor of a popular weekly music magazine, “Hi Tide provides a nice mix of pop with a dash of Cayman which commercial radio enjoy and support”.

Cousins Shane Allenger and Sean Hennings started Hi Tide in 1993 and although the band has gone through many changes and featured other musicians, the two mainstays have always been Shane and Sean.

Along with their newly released “Hi Tide 4” (a collection of 15 new originals), Hi Tide has nine other albums, three with original songs, two with classic covers “unplugged”, three Christmas collections and a live album “Live at Deckers” . Songs from all of these albums are well represented on radio in the Cayman Islands, with three original songs — “That’s What I’d Do”, “In Your Kiss”’ and “Open Invitation” — making the international charts. Their cover of Bob Marley’s “Waiting In Vain” has also been released in Italy on a compilation CD.

One of their most popular original songs, “Love You More”, has been licensed in England to be played in thousands of stores throughout Europe.

Hi Tide has shared the stage with many great performers including Bon Jovi, Jimmy Cliff, Third World, Jeff Healey, Garbage, George Duke, Al Jarreau, Natalie Cole, Emmylou Harris and Randy Travis.

As well as putting on regular shows in the Cayman Islands, they have performed all over the world including mainland USA, Hawaii, Canada, Europe, South America and, of course, the Caribbean. Their appearances have included private gigs, one-off shows, mini-tours and many music festivals.

Hi Tide never stops working and despite their many performances, Shane and Sean are still finding time for the studio. They are presently working on two projects. Classic songs done in a reggae style, and another original album.

Let me know what you guys think of Hi Tide.

Cheers!
