Tell me if you’ve heard this one. Two guys walk into a bar totting a camera, peaches and exotic fruit juices…

What, you haven’t heard that one before? Last night that scene played out exactly like that, but it wasn’t to be the butt of some joke, it was serious business. We had boat drinks to taste test.

Yesterday was the last day for drink recipe entries for the Conched in Key West Boat Drink contest. For the past 5 days Castaways have been submitting drink recipes for the honor of having their drink served aboard the Key West Express next month for the official bar crawl trip on September 20th. Oh, and the winner receives two free tickets aboard the Key West Express to travel to the Conched in Key West Charity Bar Crawl.

Scott, who works for the Key West Express, and I met at the Nauti Turtle just off Fort Myers Beach to do ultra important drink research. We put our game faces on and set out to pick a winning drink. With almost 20 drinks submitted we had our work cut out for us. Scott and I narrowed it down to four drinks to taste test, then picked the best drink out of the four. Scott had the final say, being that it’s his company’s boat and all. But it was a unanimous decision on the winner.

The four finalists were Paul Friel, Paige Moore Bakhaus, Paulette McNeill Arnette and Natalie Payne French. Thanks you to everyone who submitted recipes! You’re all winners in my book and I’m quite sure you’re drinks will be featured in future Boat Drink posts.

Here are the four finalist recipes that we taste tested and the photo evidence.

Conched in Key West Drink Recipes

From Paul Friel

  • ‎2 oz Cruzan light rum
  • 3/4 oz triple sec
  • 3/4″ oz Petron
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 3 oz pomegranite juice
  • Splash of pinapple

Shake and pour over ice. Garnish with thin slice of lime and pineapple. A variation on the “Beach bum”.

From Paige Moore Bakhaus

In a blender put 1 half packet Crystal Light Lemonade powder, 4 oz. dark rum (Gosling’s Black Seal is my fav), 6 oz. mango or peach flavored vodka (I like Finlandia) and a pitted peach, skin and all. Fill blender with ice or if you’re using a Margaritaville machine just hit blend and try not to break out in hives waiting to get this drink in your mouth…enjoy!

From Paulette McNeill Arnette

Myers Dark Rum, Coconut Rum, fresh orange juice, pineapple juice, and mango juice over ice. Measure and mix all to suit your taste! I like mango juice the most so I use more of it than the other juices (I also like to taste the rum in my drinks!) Yummmm!!

From Natalie Payne French

  • 1.5 Favorite Dark Rum (I choose Botran)
  • .5 oz. Parrot Bay Key Lime Rum
  • 1 oz. fresh pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. fresh guava juice
  • .5 oz. Maraschino cherry

Shake and serve over crushed ice. Garnish with a fresh Key Lime.

 And the Winner Is……

Why have one when you can have two.

It was a difficult decision but the winner of the Conched in Key West Boat Drink contest is…

Paige Moore Bakhaus!

Her winning drink that she calls the Coastal Cowgirl/boy was the unanimous winner. Paige will have her drink re-named to the Conched in Key West and served aboard the Key West Express September 20th. She will also receive two free tickets aboard the Express to travel to the charity bar crawl. Congrats Paige!

I encourage everyone to mix up her drink recipe and give it a taste test for yourself. It’s amazing! The blended peach, lemonade crystal light, mango vodka and dark rum come together to make a mouth watering Boat Drink.

Thanks again for everyone who submitted!
