Last week, smooth singing reggae star Mishka released his new EP album called “Ocean Is My Potion.” The album is said to be a back to the basics album for Mishka. He funded the album with the help of fans on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter. Those fans have been eagerly awaiting the release and now we all get to celebrate.
The album also features long time friend Jimmy Buffett. The two sing together on the title track, “Ocean Is My Potion.” Not only that but the album was recorded at Buffett’s Shrimpboat Sound studio in Key West and Mishka does a cover of Buffett’s “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season.” The track features both famed musician Mac McAnally and Buffett himself.
Mishka’s island beats and mellow sound is a perfect fit for Mailboat Records. The story of how Jimmy and Mishka met is a good one. Born in Bermuda and traveling the Caribbean with his family, at five years old young Mishka would earn money by delivering products to boats anchored in harbors. The two became friends when Mishka would deliever fresh croissants to Buffett’s sailboat in the French West Indies. The two became friends, connected by music and the Caribbean.
