Caneel Bay Resort on St. John, U.S.V.I. is gearing up for the 2013-2014 travel season with new developments to satisfy guests. Formerly known as Caneel Bay, A Rosewood Resort, the eco-friendly destination has rebranded itself as an independent property and will relaunch under the official name Caneel Bay Resort, which will open for the new season on November 1, 2013.
“Caneel Bay continues to be the leader of rustic, luxury-chic in the Caribbean. We have an incredible heritage started by the Rockefeller’s and it’s a legacy that we look forward to developing, while preserving the area’s tranquility,” said Nikolay Hotze, Managing Director. “We look forward to this new chapter as an independent resort and welcoming our returning and first-time guests to the property.”
Along with the relaunch, the property welcomes the new ZoZo’s Ristorante. The former Sugar Mill restaurant is currently being transformed with new management, renovation, and a dining concept and menu. Set atop the ruins of an 18th century sugar mill overlooking the resort and the twinkling lights of St. Thomas, the restaurant is being transformed by John Ferrigno, owner of the renowned restaurant of the same name, near Cruz Bay.
Guests will also be able to perk up at Cannella, a new coffee shop and Italian gelateria. Opening November 1, the café, located near the Caneel Bay Resort gift shop, will serve gelato inspired by local flavors, paninis and coffee. These culinary changes join the recent addition of the Sushi Bar, adjacent to the Caneel Beach Bar & Grill.
At the Massage Cabanas overlooking the beach, two new spa treatments are available to relax guests. The Hot Bamboo Massage (80 min; $255) unwinds guests with the smoothness and strength of warm bamboo used to massage muscles. Guests can also indulge in the Hot Seashell Massage (80 min; $255). This relaxing treatment uses heated shells with traditional massage techniques to give a memorable sea-inspired treatment.
Moving forward, the resort will also carry out plans to renovate all guestrooms beginning in 2014, with completion in phases over the next two to three years.
The only resort to offer 170 acres and seven beaches within the Virgin Islands National Park, Caneel Bay Resort will continue to follow the same eco-friendly focus that has guided the property since its founding by philanthropist Laurance Rockefeller. The appealing mix of low-key luxury, attentive service and purposeful absence of digital distractions will remain the same, right down to the donkey and deer that are such a lovable part of the Caneel Bay Resort experience.
Celebrate all that’s new at Caneel Bay, with the Bed and Breakfast package. Book a stay November 1 – December 20, and receive breakfast for two with each night’s stay. Package rates from $401 per night, based on double occupancy.
