I think the Bahamas Tourism Board has a slogan that says, “It’s better in the Bahamas.” I have to agree, somethings are better in the Bahamas, especially when it comes to Rum Festivals.

With so many photos to share, I thought it would be easier to break up the Bahamas Rum Festival into three different posts, one for each day. Shall we jump on this rum train and go for a ride?!

You can see Day 2 and Day 3 here.

First stop after landing at the airport was Compass Point for cocktails and Cracked Conch and Fritters.

The Rum Festival venue was simply amazing, it took place at historic Fort Charlotte over looking Nassau Harbour. The fort was constructed in the late 18th century by British but never used it battle. Today it offers guided tours and more recently rum festivals.

Our good friends David and Dominique from Caribbean Soul Trekkers made it down from their frozen home in the north. Always have a great time hanging out them. Seems like the rum is always flowing when they are around!

This is David and I with the man who might just cook the best food in the Bahamas. I forget his name but I stopped by his tent two or three times to grab his tasty jerk chicken and pork. Watch our for that Fire In The Hole sauce though, it will light a fire under your ass!

Tortuga Rum anyone?

The team behind Genuinely Bahamian Products and Tortuga Rum are amazing.  In the photo above I’m holding something called a Rum Cake Rum Shot, calling it delicious would be an insult. I brought back the ingredients and am planning on making a little drink recipe video featuring this tummy pleasing rum shot. Stay tuned!

The rum tasting competition took place deep down inside the bowels of the fort. I think it was either the dungeon or the ammunition room, either way it was an unbelievable spot to sit and judge dozens of fine rums. I remember sitting there thinking, “damn this is cool!”

Day 1 was a rollercoaster of fun and excitement, no one really knew what to expect. As the day progressed the vending tents finished their displays, the smells of food on the grill filled the air, and people began to fill the old fort. Spotlights spun through the air and Bahamian music put a bounce in everyone’s step. It might have been all the rum I was sipping throughout the day, but I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face…I guess somethings really are better in the Bahamas.

This trip was sponsored by Genuinely Bahamian Products at Bay Street Station.
Cheers!
