Without a doubt, the number question I get asked is,”Where should I go for my Caribbean vacation?”

I’m no travel agent, (maybe I should have been!) but I know that each person looks for something different when traveling to the Caribbean. Some people like to explore on their own, while others like to spend the day poolside with a frozen rum drink. Some like to spend their time snorkeling and diving, while others look for quiet secluded romance. That’s why I love the Caribbean, it seems like there’s an island or islands to fit everyone’s idea of a dream vacation.

Now that school is out for summer and hotel prices have dropped for the off season, this question has been appearing in my inbox more and more. I love helping Castaways plan their island getaways and hopefully this post will give you a few quality ideas.

Last month I wrote a story about Elite Island Resorts and how they offer an “Authentic” Caribbean experience and not one of those cookie-cutter megaresort stays that you can find on the tourist heavy islands. Well this collection of hotels offers both families and couples all-inclusive options on 5 different relaxing islands. That’s why I’m a fan of Elite Island Resorts, each hotel is different and offers guests some thing unique and their properties can be found islands that aren’t overwhelmed by the tourism machine.

First let’s look at the destinations that would be great for a family vacation to the Caribbean.

Tortola, BVI – Long Bay Beach Club

What’s not to love about the British Virgin Islands, truly a special place for a summer vacation. Long Bay Beach Club is perfect for families looking to create some life-long memories in a stunning setting. The resort embraces the tropical informality and Tortola’s own natural beauty. It’s hidden away on one of the island’s finest beaches with over a mile of powder-soft white sand and crystal clear Caribbean water.

The island’s colonial history is reflected throughout the resort, the main building is modeled after a plantation house, the beach restaurant is set in an 18th-century sugar mill, and many more historic element are represented throughout the resort. Definitely not a cookie-cutter island resort.

It also offers many different activities and tours that the entire family will love.

Antigua: The Verandah Resort & Spa

Whether your family is hungry for action or just wants to relax and be together, The Verandah Resort & Spa is a great place for your summer vacation. The resort offers a wide range of activities for the whole family, things like mini-golf, movies, watersports, tennis, golf and more.

The Verandah also offers the Kidz Club, a playground, splash pool, and special dining options so that no member of the family is left out.

Now we take a look at destinations that are perfect for a couples getaway.

Antigua – Galley Bay Resort & Spa

The boutique property’s 98 guest rooms are set amid 40 acres of beautiful tropical gardens, providing a sense of privacy. Galley Bay Resort & Spa has accommodations that are tucked into the landscape along the beach, so your next swim is just a few steps across the sand. Their Gauguin cottages, hidden amid the gardens, offer lagoon views and concealed individual plunge pools for private dips.

Galley Bay was named in the “Top 100 resorts of the World” and among the “Top 10 Best Resorts for Romance in the Caribbean” by the readers of TripAdvisor.com. So they know how to create special memories for couples.

With three romantic open-air restaurants and three welcoming lounges, you’ll never need to leave the property to dine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also boast an afternoon tea, evening hors d’oeuvres, by-the-glass wines, and top-shelf beverages. Live entertainment, cocktail parties and Caribbean barbecues punctuate evenings at Galley Bay.

Barbados: The Club, Barbados Resort & Spa

Say hello to the only adults only all-Inclusive resort on Barbados. This escape is located oceanfront on Barbados’ West Coast. The Club, Barbados Resort & Spa offers terrific rooms and suites, including Oceanfront Rooms and Suites, a luxurious Spa & Salon, freshwater swimming pools, all-Inclusive dining and drinks, water sports, entertainment, and the warm hospitality Barbados is famous for. This resort is perfect for couples, honeymoons, friends, and family (16 years of age and older) looking for a summer getaway.

The Club, Barbados puts you close to some of the best dining, shopping, beaches, tours and excursions. I recommend touring some of the famous rum distilleries of Barbados as well!

The Grenadines – Palm Island Resort

If you’re really looking to get away and enjoy a summer escape I definitely recommend looking into Palm Island Resort in the Grenadine Islands. Not just a resort, but its own private island. This 135-acre Caribbean palm tree paradise caters to discerning travelers who seek an unspoiled Caribbean retreat. It’s 43 guest rooms, suites, villas and unique lofts will give you a secluded feeling and you’ll have plenty of room to explore. With seven beaches, there’s a good chance you and your loved one will have one all to yourselves!

Where should you go for your Caribbean summer vacation? You should go to an island that fits your personality. You should go to a place that gives a true Caribbean experience, not a plastic cookie-cutter tourist trap.

If you’re traveling with your family then you should seek out a place that specializes in entertaining people of all ages. If you’re traveling for romance then you should seek a destination that gives couples and adults top priority.

I think I gave you some pretty good options with the Elite Island Resort collection, they offer a little something for everyone. If you have any questions about destinations that please feel free to ask. I’m always happy to help!
