A Day With Stormy Pirates Charters – US Virgin Islands

If you’re looking for a great day charter experience in the US Virgin Islands, then definitely look into Stormy Pirates Charters.
We were lucky enough to get down to the USVI in July (2020) which was shortly after they reopened due to covid-19. The travel and safety protocols weren’t too bad and we were happy to keep ourselves safe, as well as everyone who calls the islands home.
We visit the Virgin Islands often and always try to do a day out on the water. I highly recommend you do the same! It usually turns out to be the best day during your vacation.
We booked our day charter with Stormy Pirates and went out on their Center Console. Just one of four different boats to choose from with Stormy Pirates. Captain Susannah (who was awesome!) met us at the national park dock in Cruz Bay, St. John and that’s where the fun started.
We were staying on St. John for the week and brought Crystal’s mom, Sue and her husband John. This trip was a retirement present for Sue, so we wanted to make it special!
Below, I take you through our stops and show you what the day was like in a fun video I think you’ll enjoy. If it doesn’t make you want to hop the first plane to the USVI and jump on a boat, I don’t know what will.
US Virgin Islands Charter Stops
Being that it was covid time, the British Virgin Islands were closed to all visitors. They only recently opened up December 1st with some stiff safety protocols.
Since we usually venture over to the BVI on our charter days, I was looking forward to seeing some fun spots in USVI waters that we haven’t visited before.
One of those places was Water Island, home of Dinghy’s Beach Bar. When it comes to beach bars, I’m like a moth to a flame. You can’t keep me away!
Dinghy’s Beach Bar is located on Honeymoon Beach, Water Island. The beach is simply AMAZING! Beautiful tall coconut palm trees, soft sand and that brilliant blue Caribbean water.
As you can see from the video, there were lots of boats coming and going. So the place had a great energy with lots of people enjoying the good food and beach vibes.
Definitely put Dinghy’s Beach Bar on your list of must visit spots in the US Virgin Islands.
After Water Island, we motored back east to Great St. James Island off the southeast end of St. Thomas. There you’ll find the picturesque Christmas Cove.
Christmas Cove is a great anchorage located on the lee side of Great St. James. There’s good snorkeling around Fish Cay, a small rock outcropping in the bay. Just watch for boat traffic swimming out there, it’s a busy place.
Christmas Cove (I just love that name!) is also home to one of the most popular floating attractions in the area, Pizza Pi VI. Yes, it’s a floating pizza boat!
Okay, it gets cool points just for being a pizza boat, but it gets even better because the pizza is out of this world good!
Simply tie your boat up to the side or dinghy up to the specially designed pizza window at the stern (back) of the boat. There you’ll be greeted by a super friendly staff member ready to hand you a smokin’-good pizza and ice cold drinks if needed.
It’s best to call your pizza in about 30 minute before as it can get busy and you can’t stayed tied up to the boat for too long. Just give them a call at 340-643-4674 or radio them on channel 16 from your boat.
We killed our first pizza in I-kid-you-not, 5 minutes. So we ordered another and just floated away the rest of the day in Christmas Cove.
I’d have to say that our day with Stormy Pirates Charters was our best day during this trip. Not that all the other beach days on St. John were bad, but boat days are just the best. Captain Susannah rocked it. She was not only an expert captain, but she was a ton of fun and had lots of great island stories that kept us entertained the entire day.
